Innovation and Technology

In the knowledge-based economy, Hong Kong is embracing new economic drivers of innovation and technology.

Since 1997, there has been emphasis on diversifying Hong Kong’s economy into new areas of growth involving innovation and technology, which are essential in adding value, increasing productivity and enhancing overall competitiveness.

Government framework to oversee major initiatives in promoting innovation and technology, attracting external direct investment and supporting industry and commerce
Innovation and Technology Commission established to lead Hong Kong’s drive to be a knowledge-based economy
Science Park opened in June 2002 to help nurture technology-based enterprises carry out applied R&D work. Developed along a clustering concept with four initial clusters of electronics, information technology and telecommunications, biotechnology and precision engineering
Phase I and II of the Cyperport, Hong Kong’s landmark information technology infrastructure has already been completed. The last phase (residential portion) will be finished in 2008, creating a strategic cluster of companies specialising in IT applications, information services and multi-media content creation.
