Trade Relations with ASEAN

• The trade relationship between Hong Kong and ASEAN is flourishing. Trade between Hong Kong and ASEAN increased 14% from HK$483.1 billion in 2006 to HK$549.6 billion in 2007. At the same year, ASEAN was Hong Kong's 3rd largest trading partner2.  Four of the ASEAN countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines) were among the top 20 trading partners of Hong Kong in 2007.
   
• Hong Kong is also an important entrepot for trade between the Mainland of China and ASEAN. Re-export of goods of Mainland origin through Hong Kong to ASEAN increased by 14% from HK$99.6 billion in 2006 to HK$113.2 billion in 2007.
   
• Hong Kong's domestic export of goods to ASEAN totalled about HK$8.2 billion in 2007. The top three domestic export categories to ASEAN in 2007 were:
   
• Telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing apparatus and equipment
   
• Tobacco and tobacco manufactures
   
• Electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances and electrical parts thereof
   
• Hong Kong's re-export of goods to ASEAN totalled about HK$155.9 billion in 2007. The top three re-export categories to ASEAN in 2007 were:
   
• Electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances and electrical parts thereof
   
• Telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing apparatus and equipment
   
• Office machines and automatic data processing machines
   
• Hong Kong's import of goods from ASEAN totalled about HK$385.5 billion in 2007. The top three import categories from ASEAN in 2007 were:
   
• Electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances and electrical parts thereof
   
• Petroleum, petroleum products and related materials
   
• Office machines and automatic data processing machines
