Trade Relations with Singapore

Hong Kong and Singapore enjoy a close trading relationship. Bilateral trade between Hong Kong and Singapore increased 15% from HK$213.4 billion in 2006 to HK$245.3 billion in 2007. In 2007, Singapore was Hong Kong's 5th largest trading partner, 5th largest market for domestic exports and 8th largest market for re-exports, and 4th largest source of imports.
   
Hong Kong is also an important entrepot for trade between the Mainland of China and Singapore. Re-export of goods of Mainland origin through Hong Kong to Singapore increased by 5% from HK$30.0 billion in 2006 to HK$31.6 billion in 2007.
   
Hong Kong's domestic export of goods to Singapore totalled about HK$3.0 billion in 2007. The top three export categories to Singapore in 2007 were:
   
Jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semi-precious materials
   
Inorganic chemicals
   
Tobacco and tobacco manufactures
   
Hong Kong's re-export of goods to Singapore totalled about HK$47.4 billion in 2007. The top three re-export categories to Singapore in 2007 were:
   
Electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances and electrical parts thereof
   
Telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing apparatus and equipment
   
Office machines and automatic data processing machines
   
Hong Kong's import of goods from Singapore totalled about HK$194.8 billion in 2007. The top three import categories from Singapore in 2007 were:
   
Electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances and electrical parts thereof
   
Petroleum, petroleum products and related materials
   
Telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing apparatus and equipment

Bilateral Investment

As at end 2006, Singapore was the 9th major source of inward direct investment (IDI) into Hong Kong, with an IDI stock of HK$85.2 billion.
   
As at end 2006, Singapore was Hong Kong's 9th major destination of outward direct investment (ODI) from Hong Kong, with an ODI stock of HK$33.1 billion.
   
As at 1 June 2007, there were 43 regional headquarters, 105 regional offices and 134 local offices were set up by Singaporean companies in Hong Kong.
