June 15, 2021

A webinar for the Indian business community and featuring the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Christopher Hui, as the keynote speaker held in June this year has received overwhelming response from Indian enterprises, especially those in the financial services and consulting sectors. Co-organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore and Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), the webinar was supported by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Confederation of Indian Industry, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Indian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong.

Addressing about 200 business leaders and senior company representatives, Mr Hui highlighted Hong Kong's unique advantages as an international financial centre and the boundless opportunities that the city and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area can offer. He elaborated on Hong Kong's competitive edges in a wide range of financial services that can complement Indian companies' business development strategies, as well as Hong Kong’s institutional strengths that underline the city's financial market resilience. Mr Hui also introduced to participants the strategies, including funding and policies, put in place by the Hong Kong SAR Government to nurture the fintech ecosystem in Hong Kong.

After Mr Hui's presentation, the Chairman of Edelweiss Group, Mr Rashesh Shah, and the Chief Executive of ICICI Bank Hong Kong, Mr Rohit Gupta, spoke at a panel discussion. Both of them shared their views on why Hong Kong is an important part of their institutions' business strategy in the region and how Hong Kong's advantages benefit their business operations and growth. The webinar concluded with a question and answer (Q&A) session, in which Hong Kong's competitive edges in fintech and asset management, family office operations, and how Indian enterprises could benefit from Hong Kong's developments on various fronts were discussed. The Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, Mr Stephen Phillips, moderated the panel discussion and Q&A session.
