Welcome to the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore. As one of the four representative offices* of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (HKSARG) in the ASEAN region, our mission is to foster the bilateral relations between Hong Kong and the three members of ASEAN, namely the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam, as well as India.

Under “One Country, Two Systems”, Hong Kong is part of China but retains its own systems and way of life. This principle is the bedrock of Hong Kong’s stability and continued prosperity since the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. For more than two decades, we have been preserving our own economic and legal systems, including a common law system as well as a simple and low tax regime, with distinctive identities to participate in a number of international organisations. These institutional strengths, coupled with our global connectivity, have landed Hong Kong robustly as an international hub for finance, shipping and trade in the Asia-Pacific Region and beyond.

The National 15th Five-Year Plan of China reaffirms its support in consolidating and enhancing Hong Kong's status as an international financial, shipping and trade centre and an international aviation hub. It aims to strengthen Hong Kong’s functions as a global offshore Renminbi business hub, an international asset and risk management centre, an international innovation and technology hub, while deepening its development as an international legal and dispute resolution services centre, a regional intellectual property trading centre, and the East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange. For the first time, the Plan also supports Hong Kong in establishing a commodity trading ecosystem and a high value-added supply chain services centre. In addition, it explicitly backs Hong Kong in accelerating the development of the Northern Metropolis and developing into an international hub for high-calibre talent.

We will continue to execute the HKSARG’s strategic directions of proactively aligning with the National 15th Five-Year Plan, deepening international exchanges and co-operation, strengthening our bridging role between the Chinese Mainland and the world, and pioneering a new phase of high-quality development for Hong Kong.
