She Came from Beijing (約定 · 香奈兒) musical

June 12, 2025

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore supported the musical “She Came from Beijing” (約定 · 香奈兒), presented by Spring-Time Experimental Theatre and produced by acclaimed Hong Kong director Clifton Ko (高志森). Following a successful run in Beijing, the show arrived at Singapore’s Gateway Theatre on June 12 as part of its 2025 tour, the first time in South East Asia, which also included stops in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Foshan.

“She Came from Beijing” (約定 · 香奈兒) featured a powerful solo performance by Hong Kong stage actress Perry Chiu (焦媛), who also wrote and directed the show. A graduate of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), her deeply moving performance in this production earned her the Best Actress at the 2024 Beijing International Monodrama Festival.

Based on Chiu’s real-life journey, the heartfelt musical weaved in iconic hits by Faye Wong —including 《約定》, 《你快樂所以我快樂》, 《我願意》, 《旋木》, 《償還》, and 《只願為你守著約》— to explore themes of love, loss and reconciliation. At its core, Chiu revisited memories of her childhood and the unresolved grief surrounding her father's passing, undertaking a meaningful journey of self-discovery and a deeper appreciation for paternal love.
