Chinese New Year Gathering in Singapore

March 5, 2018

To greet the Year of the Dog, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore hosted a Chinese New Year Gathering for some 130 guests from the diplomatic, business, academic, media and Hong Kong community circles on March 5. The evening event was held at the iconic Asian Civilisations Museum, a unique historical building housing Singapore’s Asian heritage. Kicking off the event, HKETO celebrated the new year with the traditional “Lo Hei” by the waterfront where spectacular views of the Singapore River and central business district skyline were showcased. By tossing a wide variety of ingredients including “yu sheng” to symbolise “tossing up good fortune”, guests and friends exchanged blessings and words of prosperity, wishing each other bright prospects and abundance in the year ahead. It was a blissful evening filled with hearty laughter and fantastic mingling. Be it reunion of old friends or introduction to new contacts, the joyous occasion provided a great platform for networking. Director of the HKETO in Singapore Bruno Luk delivered welcome remarks at the event. Besides wishing all guests prosperity and expressing gratitude for their continuous support, Mr Luk also took the opportunity to brief them on Hong Kong’s latest economic situation and give an overview of the city’s 2018-19 Budget.
